It's easy to Opt2Act®!
Did you know that Etex Australia is the only manufacturer of plasterboard and metal systems in Australia to offer an opt-in carbon neutral program? Under the Opt2Act® Opt-In Carbon Neutral program the products opted-in are supplied carbon neutral and certified by [Climate Active](http://www.climateactive.org.au/).
Etex Australia is the manufacturer of Siniat products and the Opt2Act program is available for a wide range of locally made plasterboard and metal products.
It’s easy to opt in
Nazli Almasirad, Siniat National Architectural Manager, said it’s easy to opt in for the program: “All architects, designers and specifiers need to do to make use of the opt-in offer, is to specify Siniat carbon neutral products at the early design stage of a project. Once the products are supplied to the project site, Siniat will work with the builders and contractors to determine the exact quantity of supplied products and calculate the carbon offsets,” she said.
What is meant by carbon neutral?
Carbon neutrality refers to a situation where the net greenhouse gas emissions of an organisation, service or a product are equal to zero. At Siniat our business has been investing in energy efficient work strategies for more than a decade. The business has also introduced a wide range of measures aimed at reducing the overall carbon emissions.
Why carbon neutral?
By using carbon neutral Siniat products under the Opt2Act program, specifiers and contractors can reduce their building’s upfront carbon emissions to meet the requirements of the Positive category of Green Star rating tools. A wide range of locally made Siniat plasterboard is GreenTag GreenRate Level A certified, which is recognized as meeting the credit requirements of the Responsible category. Opting into the Opt2Act program will result in achieving Exceptional Performance under the GBCA Responsible Products Framework.
The sustainability focus of the Etex Group
“We have been actively working on reducing our impact on the environment and improving our sustainability offering for about a decade,” said Kathryn Walker, Regional EHS & Sustainability Manager (APAC). The Etex Group, the Belgium based leader in lightweight construction, has embarked on the “Road to Sustainability 2030”.
The plan outlines Etex’s vision to help build a better, sustainable future. The “Road to Sustainability 2030” sets clear ambitions for the next eight years across five priority areas: health, safety and well-being; customer engagement; diversity, equity, and inclusion; decarbonization and circularity.
Health, safety and well-being: the daily goal is to reach zero fatalities, injuries or burnouts;
Customer engagement: Etex aims to build a sustainable roadmap per product platform by 2025;
Diversity, equity and inclusion: by 2025, Etex will cover all teammates by diversity, equity and inclusion policies, procedures and practices. It will also train all teammates on diversity, equity and inclusion as well as close the gender pay gap;
Decarbonisation: the goal for 2030 is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (intensity of Scopes 1 and 2) by 35% compared to 2018;
Circularity: By 2030, Etex will use more than 20% of circular input as raw material (compared to 2018), send zero waste to landfill, use 100% recycled packaging material and reduce plastic packaging with 20% (compared to 2018), offer a take back service of its product portfolio in 80% of its European countries, and dedicate 50% of its innovation resources to sustainability.
