The winners of this year’s Sustainability Awards were announced during a digital gala presentation on the 11th of November.
Siniat sponsored the Women in Sustainability category for a third consecutive year. This year the award went to joint entrants Dr Shaneen Fantin and Belinda Allwood. The other finalists were Sara van der Meer, Tatiana Schonhobel, Arianna Brambilla, Bonnie Herring and Milica Tumbas.
The Sustainability Awards, one of the longest running programmes of critical recognition for the architecture, design and construction industries, recognises all-round excellence in sustainable construction, including the overall design and delivery of buildings, public infrastructure and civil engineering projects.
The Awards are not only given to projects that demonstrate an immediate high level of sustainable architecture or design, but also those that have demonstrated long-term sustainability, are accessible to all users and have made a positive cultural, social or economic contribution to the local community.
The 2021 program saw its highest entry count to date, with 68 finalists, 14 winners and 14 highly commended awards highlighting the growing prevalence of sustainable design principles in the Australian built environment sector.
During the Sustainability Summit, which preceded the Awards function, Siniat’s National WHS & Sustainability Manager Kathryn Walker was a panellist in the session ‘Women in Built Environment Sustainability Leadership’. Described by attendees as the most interesting session of the day, the conversation extended beyond gender to focus on the strengths of diversity in all aspects of the industry.
“Every year we are inspired by the finalists and the fantastic work they are doing,” said Siniat Marketing Manager Stephanie Olsen. “The Summit and the Awards give us the opportunity to connect with the front runners in sustainable architecture and design. It helps us as a manufacturer to understand industry needs and to see how we can improve our sustainability offering.”
